MBK
The multi-storey MBK, or Mah Boon Krong, is probably Bangkok's most legendary shopping mall, popular with both tourists and locals. The first six floors is made up of various shops and stalls selling almost everything and anything including optical, fashions, cameras, mobile phones, mp3 players, shoes, furniture, DVDs, Computer games and software as well as many other items. There are plenty of places to eat at MBK including a food court where there is a good selection and variety of foods. The top floor comprises of an entertainment complex with cinema halls, modern karaoke facilities, a computer games arcade and plenty of other restaurants and fast food choices.

Vimanmek Palace
Also known as the Cloud Mansion, Vimanmek Palace is the world's largest building made entirely of golden teak and is located on Ratchawithi Road behind the National Assembly Building. The palace was built in the early 20th century and served as a royal residence for a few years before it fell into disuse and was practically forgotten until the early eighties. It was rediscovered by Her Majesty the Queen and turned into museum reflecting the Thai heritage from the dramatic reign of King Rama V.

The palace has two wings, one pointing north and one west, which meet each other at a 90 degree angle. Each of the wings is 60 metres in length and 25 metres tall. There are altogether 31 exhibition rooms housing fabulous collections of art, glassware, ceramics, silverware and even ivory. Parts of Vimanmek are still used for various state functions and receptions for visiting royalty; at this time part of the buildings are closed to the public. Traditional Thai dancing commences daily at 10.30am and 2.00pm.

Getting There:
By BTS:  The nearest BTS station is Phayathai, but this is still quite a long way from the mansion. It is probably best to go the rest of the journey by taxi. 

By Boat: It is possible to get to the mansion by boat – stop at Tewet Pier and take a Tuk-tuk the rest of the way to the mansion.
By Bus: The following buses will get you there:
Bus number 12, 18, 28, 70, 108, 510, 515

 
 

Rose Garden
Located along the Tachin River, the Rose Garden is only an hour's drive from Bangkok. Set on 75 acres, the Rose Garden comprises of landscaped tropical gardens and lawns around a small lake.  The garden is an ideal setting for family picnics and walks. The garden also offers a number of excellent restaurants alongside cultural shows including handicraft skills, Thai boxing, and sword fighting. For the children’s entertainment there’s also an elephant show, and for adults, the site has its own golf course and a spa.  Tourists searching for souvenirs can stop at nearby shops that sell a variety of locally made consumer goods, such as handicraft products.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

There are a number of Bangkok floating markets at various locations around the city. The Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak, the most popular market, is located in Ratchaburi Province which is just over 100 kms or two hours drive from the capital city of Bangkok. The canals that make up the Floating Market were built in 1866 on demand of His Majesty the King of Thailand to help ease communication in the province. The Floating Market began its service in 1967 and today it has attracted thousands of tourists from all over the world.
